About Us

Our aim is straightforward: to help those with diabetes gain control of their condition – while letting go of it. Our method is refined: taking the aspects of diabetes management – such as recording blood glucose readings, keeping track of active insulin, measuring carbs, calculating an insulin dosage, keeping track of activity, recording blood ketones – and turning them into a personalised diabetes tracker and assistant. Our team is committed: a cohesive group of experts in their various fields. We are Hedia.

History and Mission of Hedia

After he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, Hedia became the vision of Peter Lucas – now the CEO. Hedia was founded in 2016 in Copenhagen with a team of three: Peter, Christina Kildentoft – a diabetes nurse with a Public Health master’s degree focused on diabetes – and Andreas Jespensgaard – a long-time business partner with experience in tech.

Hedia was born of Peter’s personal need to feel in control of his diabetes. After the initial shock of diagnosis, came the confusion and stress of keeping up with the various recordings, readings, and doses. By learning how diabetes could be made easier, the co-founders then set out with this earnest desire to help people get on top of their diabetes.

Hedia Today

From our founding three, we have now grown to a team of 23, including medical experts, developers, nutritionists, and data scientists.

The passion of our team is evidenced by our achievements: we have won the Best Health Tech Startup with the Nordic Startup Awards, and have received funding from the EU’s Horizon 2020 for our Clinically Validated AI-powered diabetes assistant project.

As an app, Hedia Diabetes Assistant is an approved medical device, meaning it has received CE marking – guaranteeing conformity with European Economic Area products – along with being registered with the Danish Medicines Board, as well as certified to ISO standards. Future of Hedia

We’re growing. We are currently on the market in Denmark, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Ireland, and Malta, with plans to expand into other languages for other regions. Meanwhile, we are in the process of becoming FDA-cleared, to prepare for the US market.

We are always working on new projects (including artificial intelligence) to ensure we remain valuable for our users, advanced as a medical device, and dynamic and fresh as a company.

We feel that the proof is in the (carb-counted) pudding: try the app for yourself to see what it’s all about. Hedia Diabetes Assistant is free to use and is available on Google Play and the App Store.
